Urgent! Legislative Coordinators:
Assess Democratic State Senators on Prop. 98

Because of recent developments, it's vital for Contact Coordinators to meet with their local senators and mobilize their colleagues to be ready to write to these senators in support of Proposition 98, which provides guarantees minimum funding for our public schools in the state Constitution.

Ask your state senator where she/he stands on Sen. Don Perata's proposal to "reform" Proposition 98.

Here's What CTA Needs You to Do

  • Contact your state senator at her/his local district office immediately. Meet with the senator if at all possible - if not, meet with her or his legislative staff member.
  • Ask whether the lawmaker supports Sen. Perata's plan to change Proposition 98.
  • Ask whether the Senator plans to stand with teachers, parents and the education community in keeping Proposition 98 intact. Remind the lawmaker that Proposition 98 was approved by California voters and provides minimum funding to our public schools.
  • Complete a Legislative Contact Report form and send it back to CTA's Legislative Relations Department as quickly as possible. That will help give your representatives in Sacramento vital information about which lawmakers stand with us and which ones need more work. [The form is available in the Politics and AL section under forms on the CTA web page.]
  • For more information, contact CTA Legislative Advocate Estelle Lemieux or Communications Consultant Len Feldman at 916.325.1500.
