Contact Assembly Committee to Win Health Care for All
A key CTA-backed bill is scheduled for an important hearing on June 22 in the Assembly Health Committee.
SB 921 by Sen. Sheila Kuehl (D-Santa Monica) would establish a single comprehensive health plan for all California residents at no new cost to the state. This single-payer health plan proposes to save more than $14 billion in administrative overhead and use the funds to provide health care to all Californians. The measure would help 7,000,000 Californians -- including children and teachers -- secure health care.

Urge Assembly Health to Approve SB 921 (Kuehl)
CTA is urging all members of the California Assembly's Health Committee to vote for a CTA-backed health measure. The bill, SB 921 by Sen. Sheila Kuehl (D-Santa Monica), is scheduled for consideration by the Health panel on June 22.
The measure would implement a single-payer health plan that would save more than $14 billion and ensure that every Californian is covered by comprehensive health and pharmaceutical plans.
A Very Good Idea
- SB 921, the Health Care for All Californians Act, would establish a single, comprehensive health plan that would guarantee every Californian health care protections.
- SB 921 would not raise the state's costs; it would pare them down. The measure would reduce the current 20% or more administrative costs on health plans to just 5%. That reduction would save $14 billion that would be used to cover the costs of the universal health care program.
- The bill would also save billions in prescription costs. It would provide bulk purchasing of these vital, life-saving drugs. The savings would provide all Californians with drug coverage without a co-payment.
