rss

Soon, the Senate is expected to discuss, amend and vote on S. 1356 and H.R. 2660. NEA and CTA are OPPOSED to these bills as currently written . Both bills fall below the funding levels agreed to by Congress in the fiscal year 2004 Budget Resolution adopted in April. IDEA funding is $1.2 billion less than what was in the resolution and ESEA/No Child Left Behind funding is $8 billion less.

Urge U.S. Senators to Boost Funding in S. 1356, H.R. 2660

Very soon, the Senate is expected to discuss, amend and vote on two important measures, (Senate Bill) S. 1356 and (House of Representatives Bill) H.R. 2660.

NEA and CTA are opposed to these bills as currently written.

Both bills provide less than the funding levels agreed to by Congress in the fiscal year 2004 Budget Resolution adopted in April. IDEA funding is $1.2 billion less than what was in that resolution, and ESEA/No Child Left Behind funding is $8 billion less.

A number of Senators have pledged to offer amendments to increase education funding substantially in S. 1356 and H.R. 2660.

NEA and CTA support amendments that retain and increase education funding for programs that give our students the resources they need to succeed in the classroom. NEA and CTA oppose any amendments that would cut some education programs to fund others.
