Regional UniServ Staff - Instruction & Professional Development Department

Duties and Responsibilities
- Develops resource materials and position papers for members, staff and audiences internal and external to CTA on issues related to curriculum, instruction, staff development and other areas of school change.
- Works closely with Spanish-speaking communities and bilingual teachers.
- Conducts, summarizes, analyzes and/or supervises education research and makes recommendations as appropriate.
- Delivers IPD programs and services to CTA leadership, members and staff via training and individual consultation.
- Represents CTA regarding IPD issues to California state governmental agencies and departments.
- Prepares and conducts briefings on education issues and policies.
- Develops training materials and assists in coordinating IPD conferences and programs within the framework of CTA statewide training programs.
- Participates in representing CTA regarding IPD issues to the California state legislature and state and national agencies in coordination with the CTA Governmental Relations and other Departments.
- Provides bargaining assistance to chapters on IPD related issues.
- Acts as consultant on IPD issues to CTA State Council committees, Board task forces and workgroups and other CTA committees as assigned.
- Performs such other related duties as may be assigned by the Executive Director or his/her designee.
Qualifications
- A BS/BA or higher degree. Advanced degree in education research preferred.
- Bi-literate/bilingual Spanish and/or certificated with CLAD or equivalent credential preferred
- Appropriate educational background including corresponding work experience in public schools or education field and experience in NEA affiliated local, state or national teachers associations.
- Demonstrated training and/or experience in the evaluation of education programs and policies.
- Demonstrated ability to write and speak articulately to staff, members, and public groups on behalf of CTA.
- Broad understanding of the critical issues and problems facing public schools and the education profession in California such as Special Education, multicultural/bilingual education, charter schools, peer assistance and review, student learning and school improvement.
- Demonstrated ability to conduct research, analyze information and present the results in a coherent and organized manner.
- Demonstrated ability to facilitate processes with large and small groups as they discuss, plan and implement changes to improve schools.
- Valid California Drivers License

This position is in a bargaining unit represented by CSO. Salaries are established by a collective bargaining agreement. Step placement is also determined by the CTA/CSO Agreement.
