Regional UniServ Staff – Regional Services Consultant/Organizer, Region 4

Duties and Responsibilities

  • Serves as an organizer and consultant to CTA chapters and potential members seeking to affiliate with CTA, including, but not limited to regular classroom teachers, nurses, counselors, school psychologists, adult education teachers, charter school teachers, community college faculty, educational support professionals, and ROP teachers.
  • Provides staff assistance and serves as consultant to chapter leadership and to members with problems involving negotiations, member rights and organizational development and chapter communications.
  • Serves as consultant and staff resource to CTA councils, committees or commissions as assigned on current problems facing the education profession in California.
  • Represents CTA in communicating Association policies and programs to lay and professional groups.
  • Assists Regional Manager, as assigned, with priority organizing projects, crisis management and higher education organizing and membership development programs.
  • Performs such other related duties as may be assigned by the Executive Director or her designee.

Qualifications

  • A BS/BA or higher degree.
  • Experience with and broad understanding of labor organizations and/or education-related associations/programs and services at local, state and national levels.
  • Demonstrated leadership ability in working with professional groups and/or labor organizations.
  • Demonstrated organizing, negotiating and coordinating skills necessary to successfully complete complex group projects and activities.
  • Ability to use Microsoft Office products (Word, PowerPoint, etc.) and learn programs necessary to support chapter bargaining, organizing, and communications.
  • Demonstrated ability in written and oral communications.
  • Experience and commitment to team approaches, to service delivery, and willingness to share responsibility for chapter services with colleagues.
  • Broad understanding of the critical issues and problems facing the public schools and public school employees in California.
  • Ability to obtain a valid California drivers license.

This position is in a bargaining unit represented by CSO. Salaries are established by a collective bargaining agreement. Step placement is also determined by the CTA/CSO Agreement.
