CTA-backed Bill to Protect Students Clears Assembly Education

On a bipartisan 7-0 vote, the Assembly Education Committee has approved a CTA-supported measure to help protect student safety by ensuring that credentialed educators understand their responsibility to report any signs of child abuse.

AB 2560 by Assembly Member Susan Bonilla (D-Richmond) would require credentialed educators to understand their duties under the Child Abuse and Neglect Reporting Act of the California penal code.

As "mandated reporters," educators must report suspected child abuse or neglect to appropriate law enforcement or Child Protective Services officials.

CTA believes strongly that all children should be protected from the psychological and physical consequences of abuse, neglect, abduction, or exploitation.

Every child deserves a chance to learn and no child succeeds alone.
