A CTA-backed measure aimed at streamlining the dismissal process for educators accused of verbal, physical, and sexual misconduct with students failed to pass out of the Senate Education Committee earlier this month.
The measure by Assembly Education Chair Joan Buchanan (D-Alamo) focuses on keeping students safe, safeguarding the integrity of the profession, and protecting educators' rights. Earlier in the year, an audit of the Los Angeles Unified School District revealed the school district was not following proper and timely dismissal procedures currently in law. While the fate of the bill is unknown, it could be made a two-year bill. Read more about CTA's position on AB 375.
