While local school districts are exercising "flexibility" in finding remedies to the budget crisis, CTA does not consider the taking of furlough days without pay a constructive solution to the California budget situation, whether demanded by the governor or by local school districts.

Assembly Speaker John A. Perez and Senate President pro Tem Darrell Steinberg on August 3 presented a joint plan to protect public schools, colleges and students from further budget cuts and to provide new revenue to help in the effort to combat $17 billion in cuts to education. The plan includes new revenues, but it also suspends Proposition 98, the state’s minimum school funding law, which is not good for students.
