Organized Labor - Proud and Free

Labor Day - a holiday intended to celebrate the toils of workers around the nation - a day to relax and appreciate the hard work of dedicated employees and employers.  It is, in fact, the workers who make and keep our economy strong.

This Labor Day - and going forward - we focus on honoring our work force - and more. We focus on reflection, and we focus on action. Not since the Great Depression have we experienced such volatility in our economy - volatility that is causing uncertainty and insecurity from the highest-paid CEOs to those retired or unable to work.

This is a time to not only celebrate our workers - and particularly those who hold our children's futures in their hands, our educators - but it is a time to pull together and do the right thing to help return the economy to a healthier state.

It's time to strengthen our resolve and to reinvigorate the Union Movement. Working for a common goal -with everyone paying their fair share - will propel us to the more prosperous time of the recent past, a time when weren't stripping education budgets and other vital services, but enhancing them.

What you can do:

Review our Tax Fairness section.  See how inequity in the tax system is adding to the fall in our economy.
Check our Budget section, and in particular the Resource Center tab on that page.  Learn about how budget cuts are impacting K-12 education.
Read our Unionism articles from the California Educator magazine. These articles are intended to empower you and to move you to take action as a proud union member.
View CTA's History Timeline - see the progress made on behalf of educators over the past 148 years.
