Two unique CTA chapters are "statewide" affiliates: The California Faculty Association (CFA) is the bargaining agent for professors in the California State University system, and the Community College Association (CCA) represents members in 42 bargaining chapters who work in 72 community college districts.
The CCA, CTA-NEA, is among the largest community college faculty association in California. CCA members, drawn from all 109 California community college campuses, provide leadership to achieve academic excellence, exclusive representation for collective bargaining, and political action on behalf of community college faculty, students, and programs of study. More information and news about CCA can be found in its official publication, the CCA Advocate, and online. CCA also offers an excellent opportunity for members to become chapter activists through its comprehensive Building Strong Locals Academy, which trains 15 members a year.
The CFA is a union of 23,000 professors, lecturers, librarians, counselors and coaches who teach in the California State University system. In classrooms on the 23 CSU campuses, CFA members work hard to teach students the critical-thinking skills, the technical know-how and the cultural insights they need to be thoughtful, productive and artistic participants in our society. CFA works to protect and improve one of the greatest university systems in the world through its advocacy at the state Capitol and in all public arenas. It is CFA’s role to negotiate a contract with the CSU administration for the faculty, promote academic freedom, uphold faculty rights, deliver financial protection for the faculty, and promote faculty participation in the governance of the CSU and of CFA. CFA is an affiliate of the California Teachers Association, the National Education Association, the Service Employees International Union (SEIU Local 1983), and the American Association of University Professors (AAUP).
