Sacramento – California Teachers Association President Dean E. Vogel issued the following statement on Governor Jerry Brown signing AB 10—a bill to raise the minimum wage for California’s workers to $10 an hour by 2016:
“Thank you, Governor Brown, for signing such an important piece of legislation that will allow the hard-working parents of our students to rest a little easier tonight knowing they will see an increase to their hard-earned minimum wage. The economic downturn has significantly impacted California’s students at school and at home, and increasing the minimum wage demonstrates a true commitment to our families and communities. We hope that along with the hard work we’re doing as a state to ensure every child has a fair shot at a quality education, this increase will mean a positive change at home as well.”
