Sacramento—The Education Coalition released the following statement reacting to the Legislative Analyst’s annual budget forecast and predictions that revenue shortfalls will result in an additional $2 billion in mid-year cuts to programs including education:
“For California’s 6.3 million students, our goal is to continue to provide quality education programs. While we acknowledge that the LAO predicts a slower than expected economic recovery, our schools and students did not create California’s budget problems.
“We will continue to work with the Governor and lawmakers to avoid decimating our educational programs. With more than $20 billion in cuts to schools and colleges already, it is clear additional revenues are needed to deliver the education we have promised our students.”
