California teachers union pushes measure to rein in corporate tax breaks
San Jose Mercury News | May 12, 2010
The Burlingame-based California Teachers Association is pushing a ballot measure that would help fund public schools by closing loopholes that it says have resulted in $2 billion in annual corporate tax breaks.
A campaign by the association has helped collect more than 800,000 signatures to try to put the Repeal Corporate Tax Loopholes Act on the November ballot, union leaders announced Wednesday during California's 28th annual Day of the Teacher. The measure has not officially qualified yet, but it needs only 433,971 valid signatures to do so.
