CTA-NEA Coordinating Director
Having had various responsibilities with CTA, Sue Cirillo will now bring her skills and experience to the position of CTA/NEA coordinating director.
With 23 years teaching experience, Cirillo teaches kindergarten at Beachy Avenue Elementary School in Los Angeles. As an active member of United Teachers Los Angeles, Cirillo has been a building representative, grievance coordinator, “I Can Do It” trainer, UTLA/NEA Director-at-large, UTLA/NEA Secretary, and CTA State Council member. She has also served as chair and member of CTA’s GLBT Issues Advisory Committee and chair of the Good Teaching Conference planning committee. Cirillo has also received an Honorary Service Award from her school PTA and an Unsung Hero Award from her union.
Cirillo has worked with children since she was a camp counselor but traces her passion for teaching back to a great teacher she had in middle school. She decided on teaching kindergarten and pre-K “because I wanted to be a child’s first teacher.”
She received bachelor’s degrees in liberal studies and theater and a master’s degree in educational administration from California State University, Northridge.
She is a resident of Northridge where she and her wife are raising two children.
