Michael Stone, an experienced teacher at Aliso Viejo Middle School in Orange County’s Capistrano Unified School District, is serving his second three-year term on the Board, which expires June 25, 2014.
He has taught for more than 18 years. He represents teachers in large parts of Orange and San Diego counties and is a tireless advocate for middle schools. He was the first California middle school teacher to serve on the panel that awarded “Schools to Watch” recognition as part of a statewide awards program.
Stone’s association experience includes serving as a past second vice president of the Capistrano Unified Education Association, and as a delegate from his region to the CTA State Council of Education. He also served as chair of the political action committee of the CTA Orange Service Center Council. Statewide, he has served on the CTA/ABC Committee and was a Western Association of Schools and Colleges (WASC) commission member.
He holds a bachelor’s in history from California State University, Fullerton, where he also earned his teaching credential. His master’s in middle school education is from California State University, San Bernardino.
Stone lives in Laguna Niguel with his wife, Vanessa, a second-grade teacher in Capistrano Unified, and their daughters, Chloe and Eve. Email him at email@example.com.
